The health benefits of olive oil are wide ranging; studies have connected cognitive enhancements, as well as the to decreased risk of obesity and heart disease. New study shows that that olive oil also may help to avoid brain cancer. Researchers in the United Kingdom found that oleic acid, a mono, unsaturated fatty acid present in olive-oil, stops cancer-causing protein action in brain cells.
Study coauthor Dr. Gracjan Michlewski, of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh in the U.K., and colleagues say that they’re unable to conclude whether nutritional consumption of olive oil protects against brain cancer. Dr. Colleagues and Michlewski reported their findings.
